Dramatic Begining

Fifty-four days ago I began my EEND 675B journey.  Also known as, my Foundations of Educational Technology class.  A Teaching with Technology Cohort Flyer in our teacher’s lounge peeked my curiosity.  I attended an informational session in May 2017.  Not enough educators were interested in the cohort so the first class was rescheduled for the fall.  I almost did not make it into this class.  My mother had emergency gallbladder surgery the day prior to the first class meeting.  She also had an additional procedure the day of class.  My mom woke up from her procedure and her first words were, “That was easy.”  She then looked at the clock and told me I had enough time to make it to my first class session.

I am very grateful to my mom for her unwavering support.  Even though I have a Graduate degree, it has been a decade since I have studied formally.  There are five teachers from Singleton School in this cohort.  These women are amazing!  Having class with them has truly enriched my practice.

The partnership between Joliet School District 86 and The University of Saint Francis is truly an example of institutions and people coming together for a collective good.  I am exceedingly interested in exploring teaching with technology.  This class has just scratch the surface.  Without the reduced tuition rate of $150 per credit hour and the school district reimbursement, this is an opportunity I would not have had.
